Elementary Education

Our first through fifth grade curriculum is designed to foster academic excellence, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning. Using research-based programs, students engage in meaningful learning experiences that build strong foundations across all subject areas. 

 

HMH Into Reading is the Language Arts program used in grades 1-5.  Through this program, students develop literacy skills leveraging authentic texts and science-of-reading practices. First and second graders also utilize the Wilson Phonics Program.  In all elementary grades, curriculum includes grammar, annotating, and writing strategies.  

 

The mathematics program leveraged is HMH Into Math.  HMH Into Math helps students build conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving skills through hands-on learning and real-world applications. It emphasizes computational skills to increase fluency with numbers, and offers problem solving and inquiry-based experiences. 

All elementary grades use FOSS kits for Science, an inquiry-based science program that encourages investigation, experimentation, and scientific thinking across life, physical, earth, and space sciences.  Social Studies curriculum is theme-based by grade level.  Students also receive World Language and Technology instruction.  

 

Faith formation is woven throughout the school day and strengthened through the celebration of feast days, as well as our Spirit & Service program.  Theology instruction leverages the Loyola Press religion curriculum, which helps students deepen their relationship with God while learning about Catholic teachings, the sacraments, and the importance of service to others. Together, these programs nurture confident learners, compassionate leaders, and faithful members of our community.

 

While technology is of course leveraged in the classroom for Elementary Students, usage is limited to 120 minutes per week, of which 80 minutes are required by the Archdiocese for personalized iReady testing and instruction.  Grades 1-3 utilize classroom iPads which remain at school.  Grades 4-5 utilize Chromebooks, which are brought home no more than twice weekly.
