Third Grade
Third grade marks the important transition from learning to read to reading to learn. Students become increasingly independent thinkers as they build confidence across every subject. Using HMH Into Reading, HMH Into Math, and FOSS Science, students engage in collaborative learning, inquiry, and meaningful problem-solving.
Reading & Language Arts
Using HMH Into Reading, students strengthen comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing through rich literature and informational texts.
Students learn to:
- Read increasingly complex texts
- Identify themes and main ideas
- Compare and analyze texts
- Write organized multi-paragraph responses
- Conduct beginning research
Mathematics
Using HMH Into Math, students master multiplication, division, fractions, and mathematical reasoning.
Students learn to:
- Multiply and divide fluently
- Understand fractions
- Solve multi-step word problems
- Calculate area and perimeter
- Analyze graphs and data
Science
Using FOSS Science, students investigate weather, climate, motion, matter, and life cycles through inquiry and experimentation.
Students explore:
- Water and climate
- Motion and matter
- Structures of life
- Forces and magnetism
- Scientific investigations
Religion
Students continue growing in faith through Scripture, prayer, service, and participation in the sacramental life of the Church.

Weekly Use: Less than 150 minutes per week, including:
- 80 minutes of iReady personal lessons (Office of Catholic Schools requirement)
- Remaining minutes used during core instruction

Beyond the Classroom
Students participate in Art, Music, Physical Education, Spanish, Technology, Library, service projects, and school traditions.
